Electronic manufacturing Mexico: Giants of the industry

In Mexico there are at least 35 medium and large technology companies with production facilities, including LG, Foxconn, Samsung, HP, Motorola, Flextronics, Intel, Panasonic, Ericsson and Blackberry, among the leaders for their multimillion-dollar investments and a large number of factories.

Promexico has located at least 35 medium and large companies with production plants in the national territory, of which 10 companies stand out due to their investments and number of factories, leading in the sector. These firms are Foxconn, LG, Samsung, Blackberry, Flextronics, Intel, HP, Panasonic, Ericsson and Motorola. One of the most recent investments is Flextronics, for $20 million in the state of Jalisco. This firm has more than 17 years in the country and has presence in Guadalajara, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua,  Tijuana, Aguascalientes and Coahuila.

According to data from Promexico, the value of electronic production is expected to grow 35 percent by 2020, to reach 87 thousand 608 million dollars, compared to the 64 thousand 764 million estimated to have closed in 2014.



Intel for its part inaugurated a development center in Guadalajara, Jalisco through an investment of close to 173 million dollars. Other firms such as Panasonic, Motorola, Hewlett-Packard and Ericsson have also opted to expand their operations by investing in their production facilities in the country.

Medical devices manufacturing Mexico will increase in 2017

According to "The Medical Devices Industry in Mexico" report by the ProMexico Business Intelligence Unit, the prospective production of medical devices in the country in 2016 is 15.733 million dollars. In fact, production is expected to maintain a 6.4% Annual Average Growth Rate during 2014-2020.



Data from Global Trade Atlas indicates that in 2015 Mexico exported more than 7,700 million dollars, placing this country as the ninth exporter of medical devices at the international lever, the first Latin America exporter and the main supplier to the United States market. Also, the main products exported bu the industry were: medicine, surgery and dentistry or veterinary instruments; articles and appliances for orthopedics or fractures; and mechanotherapy equipment.

Some of the companies that are investing in Mexico are Medline, which will expand its plant to Nuevo Laredo; Baxter will increase its production capacity in Cuernavaca by 40%; B. Braun Melsungen AG will invest 3 million dollars in the expansion of its plant in Atizapan; Surgical Specialties will install a manufacturing plant in Tijuana; Mediimplantes will install a manufacturing plant in Guadalajara and, likewise, Pexco will expand its Mexicali plant.

On the other hand, according to the "Competitive Alternatives 2014" document prepared by KPMG, Mexico offers 18.9% savings in manufacturing costs for the medical device industry compared to the United States. In addition, this country offers 7.8% savings in manufacturing costs of precision components, also compared to the United States.



In conclusion, Mexico's location allows considerable savings in logistics and close supervision of the manufacturing process.
